Welcome to Denis The Cat Studio, a small cat-human-family-run brand created from a genuine love of cats, thoughtful humor, and a long-term commitment to helping felines in need.

We are Denis and Ilaya, a Belgian husband and Mexican wife living in sunny Mexico with our close-knit family of 15 rescued and adopted cats. Each arrived in our lives differently: some were abandoned, some found in danger, and some simply appeared when they needed a safe home.

Our life with cats shapes the heart, humor, and personality behind Denis The Cat Studio. It reminds us every day that cats are intelligent, emotional individuals, each with a story and character of their own.

🐾 Why Denis The Cat?

Denis The Cat began before the T-shirt store.

While working on a cat-focused e-book, Denis wanted a character who could introduce ideas, explain cat behavior, and speak to people in a thoughtful and entertaining way. A friend suggested using his own name, and Denis The Cat was born.

The Ragdoll-inspired character felt like the perfect fit: elegant, recognizable, gentle, and expressive. He also reflects Denis himself—a Belgian speaking English with a French accent, with a love of intelligent humor and honest conversation.

Denis The Cat is witty and observant. He is not afraid to point out the strange things humans do, but he does it with warmth rather than cruelty and claws. His purpose is to make people smile while helping them understand that cats, like all animals, are intelligent, emotional, sentient beings who deserve care and respect.

He is more than a logo or mascot. He is the face and voice of Denis The Cat Studio—a trusted guide for humor, cat knowledge, rescue stories, and the world we are building around people who genuinely love cats.

🏡 A Life Surrounded by Rescued Cats

Life with rescued cats means tiny rituals, dramatic stares, quiet cuddles, and the kind of love only cat people truly understand.

When you wear one of our shirts, you are not wearing a design inspired by a specific rescue story. You are wearing something created for people who understand how deeply cats can become part of a life.

 

🐈 Ilaya's Rescue Mission

Ilaya began rescuing cats in 2019, inspired by our friend Celia, who has dedicated much of her life to caring for more than 60 elderly, sick, unwanted, and difficult-to-place cats.

Since then, Ilaya has helped rescue more than 250 cats. Some were abandoned, some were living in dangerous conditions, and others needed urgent medical care or simply a safe place to recover.

She now works closely with Isis, whose wider rescue network helps share cases, connect with potential adopters, and find suitable homes.

For us, rescue does not end when a cat is taken off the street. Every case may involve transport, food, medicine, veterinary care, recovery, sterilization, and careful adoption screening.

Potential adopters complete a questionnaire about their home, family, experience with animals, and reasons for adopting. If the application appears suitable, Ilaya and Isis arrange a video call, answer questions, explain the cat’s needs, and check that the home is safe and secure.

Adopters must provide identification, agree to responsible-care and sterilization requirements, and continue sending updates after adoption. Most applicants are accepted, but some are declined when the situation is not right for the cat.

This is not a temporary project. Rescue has become part of our life, and we expect it to remain so for many years to come.

 

🐈 Meet Our Close-Knit Cat Family

Our 15 cats are at the heart of our daily life.

Each has a name, a personality, and a story worth telling—playful, shy, dramatic, affectionate, cautious, curious, or wonderfully stubborn.

Some were found in the street. Some were abandoned. Some arrived when they simply needed a safe home. Together, they now live as one close-knit cat family.

Denis The Cat Studio and our rescue work come from the same place: a genuine love of cats.

The store gives us a way to create something joyful for cat lovers, while the rescue mission reflects the real work happening in our lives here in Mexico.

Today, rescue expenses are covered personally and with help from donors. Purchases from Denis The Cat Studio do not currently include a fixed donation or guaranteed rescue contribution.

Our long-term goal is to grow the business into a reliable source of support for future rescue work, including transport, medicine, veterinary care, sterilization, recovery, and responsible adoption.

Until then, we will continue sharing real rescue stories, raising awareness, and building a community of people who believe every cat deserves safety, care, and a fair chance.
